ESSENCE will be celebrating the cinematic achievements of those in Hollywood within the past year, at the highly anticipated annual ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards on Thursday, March 7, 2024 for its 17th year!

 

This year’s entertainment industry trailblazers include Academy Award nominated actress & Grammy Award winner, Danielle Brooks, six-time Grammy nominated singer and leading-actress, Halle Bailey, acclaimed screenwriter and showrunner of All American, All American: Homecoming and Found, Nkechi Okoro Carroll, industry powerhouse & President of Original Programming for STARZ, Kathryn Busby. Hosted by celebrated actor, Grammy Award winning rapper and entrepreneur, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, the highly anticipated event returns to Los Angeles to recognize women who are making their undeniable mark in film and television and amplifies their strides in defining what it means to be a Black woman in Hollywood.

ESSENCE will continue its celebration of Black film & television luminaries at the fifth annual ESSENCE Hollywood House, which will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 3322 La Cienega Place in Los Angeles. The experience for aspiring filmmakers, actors and TV & film enthusiasts, will include a day of networking, mentoring and skill-building to educate and inspire the community, while highlighting the vast spectrum of Black excellence. Industry thought leaders, executives and celebrities will take part in thoughtful programming including fireside chats, panel discussions, speed mentoring sessions, and more, providing attendees with real-life action plans for growth within the industry.

Atlanta, Georgia — The 2023 ESSENCE Girls United Disruptor Summit returned to Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday, November 11, 2023 to celebrate all aspects of the Black experience focused on Zillenials and shine a line on those in their ‘Era of Disruption’ who are working to break the mold. Rechelle Dennis (Girls United Co-Founder & Lead) kicked off the festivities by welcoming attendees to the summit before passing the mic to host Rachel Jackson, who introduced the impressive lineup of talent including a panel discussion between sister-duo Jordyn and Jodie Woods, where they outlined what it means to work together while taking their business to new heights, a live taping with the season 5 cast of ‘If Not for My Girls’ with BIA, Muni Long and Pretty Vee, and a session on all things fashion and creativity with fashion designers Aleali May and Torianna Breaux.

The event also featured popular stage appearances from internet sensation Aliyah’s Interlude, comedian Yung BBQ, and celebrity music engineer Brandra Ringo and offered dynamic programming moments like ‘Disrupt or Be Disrupted’ with Essence Ventures President & CEO Caroline Wanga and ‘On Strike’ by McDonald’s with Kenyatta Victoria, Marley Dias, J. Simmone, and Kamarie Brown.

WILL PACKER & OWN'S DATING SERIES SPIN-OFF ‘READY TO LOVE: MAKE A MOVE’ 

(Los Angeles, Calif.) — OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced today a new spin-off, READY TO LOVE: MAKE A MOVE, which comes from the popular dating and relationship series READY TO LOVE.  On Friday nights, READY TO LOVE ranks as the #1 cable series in its time slot with key African American demos and in this new series, four READY TO LOVE fan-favorite female alum embark on an all-new adventure looking for their soulmates in a new city, New Orleans, Louisiana. But the Big Easy isn’t that simple in love as host Tamica Lee, an expert matchmaker, presents them with 25 potential Mr. Rights to choose from. After the course of 13, one-hour episodes, the four ladies each need to decide if any of the men are worthy for them to MAKE A MOVE permanently to New Orleans for a fresh start at life and love - or if they’ll return back to their own homes still searching for “the one.” Produced by Will Packer Media and Lighthearted Entertainment, READY TO LOVE: MAKE A MOVE premieres on Friday, October 13th at 8PM ET/PT on OWN.

 

In the premiere episode “Welcome to NOLA,” Ashlee Akins (S1, Atlanta), Verneashia Allen (S3, Houston), Zadia Murphy (S4, Washington, D.C.), and Shereese Logan (S6, Miami) go to New Orleans for a chance at romance, moving in together to form a dating sisterhood. Today, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network debuted the official trailer for its highly anticipated original documentary series, “Time of Essence,” which premieres on Friday, August 18 at 9 pm ET/PT. The five-part, one-hour series is a celebration of the trailblazing magazine that reaches a global community of over 20 million Black women and has revealed some of the most captivating and influential covers of the past half-century. 

 

Oprah Winfrey joins the names of thought leaders, celebrities and culture defining influencers featured in the series, which includes: Oscar®-winning actresses Halle Berry and Whoopi Goldberg; Emmy®-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, Regina Hall and Taye Diggs; Golden Globe®-winning actress Taraji P. The Lab is a retail and manufacturing company founded by celebrity designer, Timeekah Murphy, affectionately known as “Murph”, in Atlanta, GA in April of 2022. Murph is the owner of the infamous brand “Alani Taylor”. As a designer, she sought out ways to end the challenges associated with outsourcing a manufacturer which, subsequently, led to the birth of “The Lab.” 

The goal of The Lab is to serve as an affordable one stop shop for your retail and manufacturing needs. Our vision is to create a sustainable space for visionaries to create, maintain, and elevate their brands. From the start of just an idea, to the production, our goal is to walk hand in hand every step of the way, making the process seamless.
